Roy F. Smith Obituary (1965 - 2016)

Roy F. Smith, 50 years of age, of DeWitt passed away at Bryan Medical Center East in Lincoln Saturday morning, March 19, 2016. He was born on November 18, 1965 in Lincoln to Larry and Karen(McCown) Smith, and was a graduate of Norris High School. Roy and Dawn Anderson had been married and later divorced. He had lived in Lincoln until moving to DeWitt in 2004. Roy had been employed at Petersen Manufacturing for 2 years and was the cook at RJ's Bar and Grill in DeWitt for the past 12 years. He was a member of the Son's of the American Legion in DeWitt, participated in Pool Leagues in the area, and was a founding member of the Cortland Wild Bunch group with AA. He enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, fishing, and was a handy man. Survivors include his mother Karen MacDonald and step father Richard of Norfolk, VA; son Kevin Smith; step daughter Jessica DeBusk and husband Steven; and grandmother Rose McCown and her companion Joe Meehan, all of Lincoln; special aunt Inez Moyer of Sidney, IA; family friend Cheryl Adams of Crete; and many dear friends, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Larry G. Smith (2010); and his special companion, "Good Son" Z'Vaughn. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in DeWitt with Reverend Sean Koos officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Pickrell. The body will lie in state Wednesday from 2-8:00 at the Venrick-Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in DeWitt with the family greeting friends from 5-7:00, and at the church one hour preceding the service on Thursday. A family prayer service will be held at 9:45 AM Thursday at the church. A special gathering for family and friends will be held Thursday from 2:30-4:00 PM at RJ's Bar and Grill in DeWitt.
