Rebecca E. Emerson

Rebecca E. (Becky) Emerson, 89 years of age, of Beatrice passed away at the Beatrice Community Hospital Friday morning, June 6, 2014. She was born on November 28, 1924 at Pelican Rapids, MN to Joseph and Lorie (Carlson) Swanson. She was a 1942 graduate of Pelican Rapids High School, attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN, graduated in 1947 from the nurses training course at Swedish Hospital School of Nursing, and received her BS degree from the College of Education at the University of Minnesota in 1950. Becky held several positions at the Swedish Hospital including evening and night supervisor of the hospital, Head Nurse in Obstetrics, and the Administrative Supervisor of Obstetrics. She was then the Clinical Instructor in Obstetrics-Gyn Nursing at Tacoma General Hospital in Tacoma, Washington, and Clinical Instructor at the Lutheran Deaconess Hospital in Minneapolis. Becky and Wilbur R. Emerson were married on June 1, 1963 in Big Lake, MN. and they moved to Beatrice in 1963.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Lorie (Carlson) Swanson; her husband Wilber Emerson; and 4 brothers.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday at the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. The body will lie in state Tuesday from 3-8:00 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice. Sign Becky's online guest book at www.ghchapel.com.
