Otto E. Wollenburg Obituary (1930 - 2018)

Otto E. Wollenburg, age 87 of DeWitt, passed away on March 15, 2018 at the Wilber Care Center. He was born in Rural DeWitt on July 3, 1930 to Otto and Katherine (Bergmeier) Wollenburg. He was a 1947 graduate of DeWitt High School. After graduation, Otto served his country in the United States Navy from 1949 to 1953. On August 10, 1951 he married Anna J. Slapnicka. Otto worked as a rural mail carrier. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in DeWitt; Dewitt Fire and Rescue; DeWitt School Board; planning committee for the formation of Tri County Schools; Oak Grove Cemetery Board; and was a lifetime member of the American Legion of DeWitt Post #212. Otto enjoyed playing golf, and fishing. He was an avid sports enthusiast, including Tri County sporting events and any activities of his grandchildren. Otto is survived by his wife, Ann; children Randy (Jody) Wollenburg, Chris (Mark) Roesler, Ron (Cindy) Wollenburg, and Tina (Chuck) Holtmeier; grandchildren RJ (Ashley), Lyndsy (Nate), Jill (Ben), Jennifer (Bobby), James (Jennifer), Jacki, Jesse (Kim), Josi (Justin), Lindsey (Jeff), Kyle (Delen), Lacey (Nate), Bailey (Jameson), Cody (Ashton), Sydney (Brian), and Sloane; 25 great grandchildren; brothers, Alfred, Donald (Shirlie); sisters Lucille, Vernes, Kathryn (Gary); sisters-in-law Judy and Mary; and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law, Teresa; brothers, Raymond (Katie), John (Phyllis), Ernest, Robert; sisters, Gertrude (Mike), Louise (John), Ruth (Eugene), sister-in-law, Lorraine; brothers-in-law, Jack, Stan, and Wencil. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday March 20, 2018 at the Trinity Lutheran Church of DeWitt with Pastor Sean Koos officiating. A family prayer service will begin at 10:15. Burial of ashes will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery of DeWitt with military honors being rendered by the United States Navy and the American Legion Post #212 of DeWitt. A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, March 19, 2018 at the Venrick-Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in DeWitt from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM with the family greeting relatives and friends from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or DeWitt Fire and Rescue.
