Norma Jean Darnell, 82 years of age, of Omaha, NE passed away in Omaha on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. She was born on June 6, 1938 in Beatrice to Dean and Helen Heckathorn. She had been married to Dick McCourtney for 21 years and to Art Darnell for 2 years. Norma was a member of the Salvation Army Church. She loved to sew, cook, read, spend time with her family, and watching Nebraska Football games. She is remembered as easy going, well liked and loved by her family that especially remember her baking cakes, pies and cookies.\nSurvivors include her 4 sons, Donald McCourtney, Dick McCourtney, Dean McCourtney and Dennis McCourtney; 5 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; and sister Patricia Knopp. Norma was preceded in death by her parents Dean and Helen Heckathorn; and brother Gary Heckathorn.\nPrivate family Celebration of Life services will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice. These services will be livestreamed on the funeral home Facebook page. Inurnment will be in the mausoleum at Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. There will be no viewing or visitation as cremation has taken place.
