Lois Maxine (Neels) Bures, 96, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice, NE. She was born on a farm near Pickrell, NE to Albert J. and Josie (Blinde) Neels on May 9, 1923. She was baptized June 17, 1923 at Zion Lutheran Church, Pickrell, NE by Rev. J.B. Reents and confirmed in 1939 by Rev. O.A.I. Mueller at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Odell, NE. Lois graduated from Odell High School in 1942 and later that summer married her high school sweetheart, Donald D. Bures. They were married for 71 happy years and together had two sons and a daughter.\nLois relished being a wife, mother and homemaker. She was a wonderful cook, noted for her delicious kolaches and pies. After her children were raised, she worked as a caregiver at the Beatrice State Developmental Center, work that she truly enjoyed. One of her life gifts included being a devoted grandmother whose grandchildren fondly remember their many visits to Grandma and Grandpa's farm, helping her with the chickens, the garden, and milking the cantankerous goats.\nLois was an avid card player and loved visiting with people. She enjoyed flowers and her garden. She was also excellent at quilting and crocheting and left behind many beautiful quilts and afghans.\nIn their retirement years, she and Don became Winter-Texans in the Rio Grande Valley, where they wintered for 21 years. Here they formed lasting friendships with others from all over the United States. \nLois was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald; daughter Lynette Kuhlmann; grand-daughter Jennifer Kuhlmann; step-grandson Matthew Deely; and sister and brother-in-law Norma Jean and Richard Vitosh.\nSurvivors are sons Allen (Simone) Bures, and Gary (Mary Jo) Bures; 6 grandchildren, Rachelle (Brent) Sharrer, Aysha (Rob) Hall, Diane (Shane) Dieckman, Elizabeth (John Hartman) Barkoudah, Stephanie (Philip) Williams, and DJ (Karen) Kuhlmann; 15 great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Nicholas, and Kate Sharrer; Graycen and Emma Hall; Avery, Amelia, Audrey and Agatha Rose Dieckman; Isabelle, Micah and Victoria Barkoudah; Jael Williams and Derrick & Dawson Kuhlmann.\nMemorial services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Odell. Private family inurnment. Cremation has taken place. A register book will be available Friday, February 28 from 10-8:00 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 AM Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the church with the funeral home in charge.
