Beatrice, Nebraska
We celebrate the life and cherish the memory of Laurie Hohensee-Goodwin, who was born on April 12, 1979, in Beatrice. Laurie, a loving, compassionate, and resilient woman, found joy and purpose in her many roles—nurse, caseworker, friend, and most importantly, as a mother and grandmother. With a heart full of love, Laurie devoted herself to her family, finding her greatest happiness in the company of her children and beloved grandchildren. Life may not have always been easy, but Laurie's resilience was a testament to her unyielding spirit, as she navigated her journey with grace and tenacity.
Laurie was engaged in her faith and church community. She found immense fulfillment volunteering for the Praise Festival in Manhattan, Kansas, for 11 years and was a member of Christ Place in Beatrice. Her dedication to service is a testament to her Christian faith, reminding us of the verse from the book of Galatians 6:9, "And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." Laurie's life was marked by her love for fishing, playing softball, Nebraska Husker Football, and the joy of being with friends. She achieved significant milestones in her career, working in various roles in healthcare before landing her dream job as a caseworker at Integrated Life Choices. Her tenacious spirit led her to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in May of 2026.
Laurie is survived by her children, Taylor (Ian), Noah (Britty), Zach (Lauren), Alex (Cami), and Mackenzie (Chayton); grandchildren, Grayson, Annalee, Grant, Bentley, Tucker, Hudson, Ellie, and Lucas; father, Mark Hohensee; half siblings, Nick and Josh Hohensee and Kelli Allington; ex-husband and best friend, Frank Goodwin; aunts, Susan and Dorothy; uncle, Cliff; and a host of extended family and many friends she considered family. She is preceded in death by her mother, Betty Hohensee; uncle, Jackie Harper; grandparents, Sandy (Jack) Harper, and Louis (Doris) Hohensee; brother-in-law, Henry Craig; and niece, Cheyenne Kellogg.
A funeral celebrating Laurie's life will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore.
