Joseph E. Manes Sr., 93 years of age, of Beatrice passed away at the Beatrice Community Hospital Wednesday afternoon, February 19, 2020. He was born on May 3, 1926 at Liberty, NE to Pearl and Hanna (Gronewold) Manes and attended Beatrice Public Schools. Joseph served his country in the United States Army from April 26, 1946 until his honorable discharge on March 17, 1947. He and Dorothy Pecka were married on August 8, 1964 in Fort Morgan, Colorado. He had been employed by Enron for over 45 years and retired as a supervisor in 1993. He was also a farmer. Joseph was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice; over 60-year member of the Knights Templar, Cryptic, and Royal Arch Masons; Beatrice Masonic Lodge; VFW and American Legion clubs; and the NRA. He was a Kansas City Royals fan and loved Harley motorcycles.\nSurvivors include son Joseph E. Manes Jr. and wife Jodi Lynn of Vail, AZ; 7 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; brother George Manes and wife Alice of Beatrice; and sister in law Dorothy Manes of Beatrice. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dorothy (2018); brother Eugene Manes; sisters Edna May Langley, Rosalie Schaffer and Elnora Rohr; and nephew Max Manes.\nFuneral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at the St. John Lutheran Church. Interment at the Wilber Czech Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army. The body will lie in state from 11:00 AM-8:00 PM Tuesday with the family greeting friends greeting friends from 6-7:30 PM at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice, and in state at the church one hour preceding the funeral. A family prayer service will be held at 1:45 PM Wednesday at the church. A memorial has been established to the Wounded Warrior Project with the funeral home in charge.
