Joan Mailahn of Wilber, formerly of Beatrice, passed away on October 22, 2018 at the Wilber Care Center. She was born on September 10, 1932 to Louis and Josephine Wittmuss and was a 1950 graduate of Union Center. On April 15, 1952, she was united in marriage to Gerald Mailahn at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beatrice. She spent most of her life in the Liberty area before moving to Beatrice in 1988. She worked for the Good Samaritan Center in Beatrice, retiring in 2004.\nSurvivors include her daughters, Diane Muller of Plymouth, Marilyn (Jay) McKernan of Beatrice, Judy (Gerald) Behrends of Martell, and Nancy (Jeff) Baxa of Western; grandchildren, Tami Helmick, Jerry (Wendy) McKernan, Jessie (Dave) Brown, Stacie (Eric) Marvicka, Mason Mailahn, and Maddie Behrends; great grandchildren, Chance and Kaylee Helmick, Caleb, Brenna, and Bryleigh McKernan, and Maisie and Maila Brown; sister-in-law, Delores Allen; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald (1988); her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Elvera Wittmus; and several other brothers and sisters-in-law.\nFuneral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore with Jon Palmquist officiating. Burial will be at the Blue Springs Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home Friday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM with the family greeting relatives and friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM, and one hour prior to the service Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wilber Care Center Staff Fund with the funeral home in charge.
