Irven Mailahn Obituary (1917 - 2015)

Irven Mailahn, 97, of Wymore, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center in Beatrice. He was born December 14, 1917 to George and Hannah (Ebbers) Mailahn in Princeton, Nebraska. Irven finished his education in Princeton, and his family moved to Hallam in 1932. During his young adult years he worked the potato farms in Idaho and upon returning to the Princeton area, worked for the Lincoln REA until he was drafted in 1942. Irven served his country in the European theatre of World War 2 working as a Tech Sargent of C Company, as a part of the 97th Signal Battalion. He married Darlene Simpson on July 30, 1949 at the First Christian Church in Beatrice. They farmed in Virginia, Nebraska before moving to a farm near Burchard in 1950, and then to a farm west of Liberty in 1964. He retired from farming in 1984 and moved with Darlene to Wymore. Irven continued farming beyond his retirement years working with John Holmbeck from 1984 until 2005. He was currently a member of the Wymore Church of Christ and Virginia American Legion Unit #367. He is survived by a son; Daryl Mailahn of Blue Springs, daughters; Marlene Mailahn Chirnside of Omaha and Lori Fairbairn and her husband Scott of Wales, Wis., grandchildren; Jodi Berke, and her husband Brad, Jamie Smit and her husband Jacque, Jeff Mailahn and his wife Chavonn, Chad Chirnside, Robin Chirnside, Tiffany Gonzales, Ellie Malone and Evan Malone, great-grandchildren; Jaci, Blake and Jada Berke, Carlize and Jondre Smit; sister Dolores Allen of Weslaco, Texas, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by this wife; Darlene (Simpson) Mailahn, parents; George and Hannah (Ebbers) Mailahn, daughter-in-law; Carolyn Mailahn, sister; Martha Rocke, brothers; Henry Mailahn, Leon Mailahn, Gerald Mailahn and Donald Mailahn and a nephew Melvin Mailahn. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 25, 2015 at the Wymore Church of Christ in Wymore with Clayton Lundstedt officiating. Burial will be in the Wymore Cemetery. The body will lie in state Friday from 10:00-9:00 at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore with family greeting friends from 6:30-8:00, and at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. A memorial has been established to the Wymore Church of Christ, with the funeral home in charge. A family prayer service will be held at 9:45 AM Saturday at the church.
