Halden L. Brown Obituary (1927 - 2014)

Halden L. Brown, 86 years of age, of Beatrice passed away at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Center Saturday afternoon, February 22, 2014. He was born March 9, 1927 and his parents were Lewis and Mary (Abbott) Brown. Hal served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, enlisting at the age of 17. He was a graduate of Pawnee City High School, Peru State College, received his Masters in Education from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and his Education Specialist degree from the University of Wyoming. Hal was a teacher, coach and guidance counselor for many school districts in Nebraska including Tecumseh, North Platte and Sioux City, Iowa. He was a psychologist for 21 years in North Platte and at Western Hills Area Education Agency where he was Supervisor of Psychologists for a 17 county area around Sioux City, Iowa. He had been named the Psychologist of the Year for the state of Nebraska. He lived in Sioux City for 16 years, retired to Mountain Home, Arkansas for 10 Years, and has resided in Beatrice for the past 10 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Beatrice and was an elder; Sesostris Temple of the Shrine, Blue Valley Shrine Club, and the Firemen Shrine Unit; Eastern Star; Noon Kiwanis Club; American Legion Club in Beatrice and served on the honor guard; the VFW, and the Eagles clubs in Beatrice; the National American Psychological Association; and was a Certified Marriage and Family Therapist, and a National Disaster Relief Counselor for the American Red Cross. Hal enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports (especially Nebraska Football), and traveling.Survivors include his wife of 51 years Ann Brown; children Debra Starnes of Shallotte, NC, Renee Bauer of Beatrice, Camille Whiddon and husband Phil of Gainesville, FL, and Janna Patterson and husband Rick of Olathe, KS; grandchildren Jenny, Phillip, Rachel, Tim, Lexie, Richard, Joshua and Harrison; 7 great grandchildren; and brother David Brown and wife Deon of Vernal, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Mary (Abbott) Brown; and brothers Ronald, Donald and Allen. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Beatrice with Rev. Dr. Jimmy Shelbourn officiating. Private burial of his ashes will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Sesostris Temple Transportation Fund and the First Presbyterian Church with Julie Hay and Bev Bowers in charge.
