Fred B. Yockel, age 84 of Wymore passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Bryan Medical Center East in Lincoln. He was born in Blue Springs on November 3, 1933 to John F. and Polly (Atkins) Yockel. He was a 1951 graduate of Wymore High School. Fred served his country in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956. On October 6, 1956, he married Shirley Arnold. He worked as a fireman and engineer for the Burlington Railroad until his retirement in 1993. Fred was a member of Anderson Post #25 American Legion of Wymore, volunteered at the Burlington Park Railroad Museum and Wymore Public Library, and was an avid Nebraska Husker Volleyball fan. He enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife, Shirley, woodworking, and reading.\nSurvivors include his children, Rhondi Clifford and husband Eric of Odell, Lori Yockel of Beatrice, Denise Richard of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Lynn Oltman of Beatrice, and Daniel Yockel and wife Sheri of Wymore; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sisters, Jackie Saurdiff and husband Dale of Maple Valley, Washington, and Carol Wilson of Beatrice; sister-in-law, Judy Arnold of Knoxville, Tennessee; brother-in-law, Bob Poutre and wife JoAnn of Lincoln and Dick Arnold and wife Darlene of Grand Island; and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (April 2017); his parents; parents-in-law, Otho and Mary (Zimmerman) Arnold; sisters, Joan (Francis) Wilson and Chery Poutre; sister-in-law, Joyce (Harold) Adams, and brothers-in-law, Darrell (Phyllis) Arnold, and Larry Arnold.\nFriends and family will gather to remember Fred at the Blue Springs Fireman's Memorial Hall on Saturday August 4, 2018 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Casual attire is requested. A memorial has been established to the Wymore Public Library Foundation and the Burlington Park Railroad Museum with the family in charge.
