Frances J. "Fran" Bauer of Beatrice passed away at Beatrice Health and Rehab on Sunday evening, January 21, 2018 at the age of 89. She was born on March 12, 1928 in Lincoln to Arthur and Sara (Robinson) Bohner. Fran obtained her BS degree as an RN from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She was employed as an RN at the Student Health Center at UNL when she met John Bauer. Fran and John were married on August 24, 1952 and moved to Beatrice in 1955, where she worked at both the Mennonite and Lutheran Hospitals in Beatrice, and at the Beatrice State Developmental Center, until she retired in 1981. She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice, and of the Fortnightly. Fran enjoyed restoring antique furniture, yard work and gardening, traveling, and reading.\n \nSurvivors include her husband of 65 years John Bauer; sons Jerry Bauer and wife LuAnn of Atlanta, GA, Steve Bauer of Beatrice, and Mark Bauer and wife Antje Anderson of Lincoln; grandchildren Nick Bauer and Timoree Bowsman (with husband Andy); and sister Mary Lou Castner of Ohio. Fran was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Brandon Bauer; and sister Janet Kirby.\n \nFuneral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Centenary United Methodist Church with Reverend Cliff Reynolds officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice. The body will lie in state Thursday from noon-5:00 PM, and Friday from 9:00 AM-8:00 PM at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice with the family greeting friends from 6-7:30 PM Friday, and at the church one hour preceding the service on Saturday. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 AM Saturday at the church. A memorial has been established to the family's choice with the funeral home in charge.
