Florence Katherine "Katie" Parks Obituary (1921 - 2012)

Florence Katherine "Katie" (Shinogle) Parks, 90 years of age, of Beatrice, Nebraska, died at the Beatrice Manor Care Center Sunday afternoon, April 29, 2012. She was born November 12, 1921 in Minneola, Kansas. She was a graduate of Bloom Kansas High School. She married Maurice L. "Boots" Parks nearly 72 years ago, on June 24, 1940 in Minneola, Kansas. Immediately after their marriage, they made their home in Burbank, California, where Boots had secured a job with Lockheed Aircraft, which lasted until he was drafted into the army in 1944. In keeping with their adventuresome spirit, during their married life they lived in a total of 8 states, including Alaska. Katie was a good correspondent and kept in touch with many friends all over the United States. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Wymore, Nebraska. Katie considered her primary purpose in life to care for her husband and family. Other interests included church, Bible study, family, friends, poetry, and family genealogy. Survivors include husband "Boots," Beatrice, Nebraska; daughter Connie Jo Browning and husband Lee, Anchorage, Alaska; son Ron Parks and wife Connie, Lincoln, Nebraska; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; sister Bonnie Malcom and husband Lester, Limon, Colorado; sister Twila Elstrom and husband George, Walla Walla, Washington; brother, Claude Shinogle and wife Jean, Minneola, Kansas. Katie was preceded in death by her, parents Clyde and Mabel (Hoover) Shinogle; sister Nadine and husband Roy McGee brother Jack Shinogle; and son-in-law, Duane Darnauer. Private family graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice with Gail Portenier officiating. There will be no public visitation.
