Evelyn Anna (Wilson) Jenkins, 96 years of age, of Crete, formerly of Wymore passed away on Monday night, July 2, 2018 in Crete. She was born March 2, 1922, to John and Katie (Meerian) Wilson on a farm 5-1/2 miles west of Marysville, KS. Evelyn spent her childhood there, attended Cunningham School Dist. 83 and graduated from Marysville High School in 1940.\nShe taught at a rural school in Marshall County, Kansas, for 5 years. On August 17, 1945, Evelyn married Charles Jenkins at St. Gregory Church in Marysville, KS. They lived on farms near Holmesville, Barneston, Liberty and Blue Springs, NE. In 1977 they moved to Wymore. \nIn 1958 Evelyn began teaching and taught in rural schools in Gage County for 8 years and in Jefferson County for 2 years. In the summer of 1968 she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and taught for 10 years at Wymore Southern. After retirement from teaching, Evelyn worked at the Beatrice Development Center and then at the D & M Motel in Wymore.\nEvelyn was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wymore and the Altar Society. She was Altar Society President for one year and taught CCD religious classes for many years. In Evelyn's younger days she enjoyed gardening and canning. Evelyn enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.\nEvelyn was preceded in death by her husband Charles; her parents John and Katie Wilson; brother's Richard, Steve, Bernard, William, Vernon (Joe), and Delmer; Sisters Cecelia Brim, Isabell Ring, Mary Schwartz and Delores (Dee) Lutjmeir.\nEvelyn is survived her children Don (Joyce) Jenkins of Wymore, Bill (Becky) Jenkins of Falls City, Marge Chapman of Lincoln, Charlotte (Dennis) James of Crete and Jack (Jane) Jenkins of Douglas; plus twelve grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; and by sister in law Donna Wilson. Evelyn is survived by many nieces, nephews etc.\nMass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wymore. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Wymore. The body will lie in state Friday from 10:00 AM- 8:00 PM at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore with the rosary starting at 7:00 PM. A memorial has been established to St. Mary's Catholic Church and Tabitha Hospice of Crete with the funeral home in charge.
