Erna L. Hartig Swartz Obituary (1915 - 2015)

Erna L. Hartig Swartz, 99 years of age, of Beatrice passed away at the Beatrice Health and Rehab Center Friday, March 6, 2015. She was born on June 7, 1915 at Hanover, KS to Herman and Emma (Niemann) Munstermann and had lived on a farm near Hanover until moving into Beatrice in 1952. Erna and Ernest Hartig were married from November 10, 1935 until he passed away in 1957. She had been employed as an office and home cleaning service from 1952-1966, and as a ward attendant at the Beatrice State Developmental Center 1966-1971. Erna and Albert Swartz were married from June 20, 1971 until he passed away in 1997. She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Beatrice and was involved in the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed quilting and making quilts for members of her family. Survivors include 2 sons Larry Hartig and wife Barbara, and Dennis Hartig and wife Connie, all of Beatrice; 4 grandchildren, Rodney and Jason Hartig, Rachel Goracke and Michael Hartig; 12 great grandchildren Brooke, Krynn and Seth Hartig, Christian and Sidney Hartig, Stephaine McClung, Trevor and Shelby Garton, Morgan and Madison Goracke, and Joshua and Chloe Hartig; on great great grandson Jacobe McClung. She was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Emma (Niemann) Munstermann; husbands Ernest Hartig and Albert Swartz; son Virgil Hartig; brothers Arthur, Herman and Alfred Munstermann; sisters Bertha Hartig and Leona Adam; and granddaughter Debbie Hartig. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Beatrice with Reverend Timothy Wagner officiating. Interment will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. The body will lie in state Monday from 1-6:00 PM at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the family greeting friends from 5-6:00, and again at the church one hour preceding the service on Tuesday. A memorial has been established to the family's choice with the funeral home in charge. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 AM Tuesday at the church.
