Elsie A. Ebke Obituary (1913 - 2012)

Elsie A. Ebke, 98 years of age, of Wilber, formerly of DeWitt, NE. passed away at the Wilber Care Center Tuesday morning, March 27, 2012. She was born on December 14, 1913 near Fairbury, NE. to Henry and Anna (Lucking) Meyer. Elsie and Emil Ebke were married on September 19, 1935 near Daykin, NE. They lived on a farm south on DeWitt until moving into DeWitt in 1967. She later moved to Wilber in 2008. Elsie was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in DeWitt and past member of the Ladies Aid. She was also involved in the DeWitt Senior Center, and quilted for both the church and the senior center. She enjoyed sewing and gardening, quilting, and canning. Survivors include 2 daughters, Janet (Ebke) Germer of Seward, NE. and Karen (Ebke) Rahe and husband Roger of DeWitt; 5 grandchildren, Jeff Rahe and fiance Carly Preston of DeWitt, Joel Germer and wife Gina of Seward,, Mike Rahe and wife Karen, Darcy (Rahe) Zimmerman and husband Jeff, and Sonja (Rahe) Chavez and fiance Scott Workman, all of DeWitt; 18 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters Lavina Schwisow of Fairbury, and Wilma Knuse of Omaha; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Anna (Lucking) Meyer; husband Emil Ebke (1999); son in law Gordon Germer; brothers Bill, Alvin, Albert and Henry Meyer; and sister Emily Grummert.. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in DeWitt with Reverend Ken Kramer officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, DeWitt. The body will lie in state Thursday from 1-9:00 P.M. at the Venrick-Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in DeWitt with the family greeting friends from 6-7:30 P.M., and at the church one hour preceding the service on Friday. A family prayer service will be held at 9:45 A.M. Friday at the church. A memorial has been established to church and the DeWitt Fire and Rescue Department with Jerry and Bette Mangels in charge.
