Elizabeth M. "Betty" Weyer Obituary (1930 - 2012)

Elizabeth M. "Betty" Weyer, age 82 years, of Beatrice died Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Center surrounded by her family. She was born April 22, 1930 at Axtell, Kansas to William C. and Gertrude Schwindamann where she attended school before moving Marysville during her junior year. Betty married Melvin D. Weyer on February 18, 1950 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. They farmed southeast of Barneston until they moved to Beatrice in 2007. Betty loved to cook and she was the school cook for Barneston Public School for five years as well as in several restaurants in the area. She was taught to cook at an early age by a good teacher, her mother. She also helped with wedding receptions and with family reunions. She compiled her own cook entitled "Cooking With Betty" and sold over 500 copies. She baked wedding cakes until ill health forced her to retire. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Barneston and was over a 50 year member of the Barneston American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies along with cooking were playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles, and sewing for her whole family. Betty is survived by her children, Patty Spier and husband Carl of Hot Springs, South Dakota; Rick Weyer and wife Alice of Beatrice; Mike Weyer and friend Judy of Chadron; and Dennis Weyer of Aurora, Illinois; and Mary Martha Blanton; by 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; by a brother, Willie Schwindamann of Marysville; and by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband, Melvin, on October 22, 2009; by a son, Larry; by brothers, Chester, Carl, Leo, and Jerry Schwindamann; by sisters, Beryl McBlair,Loretta Hutton, and Ann Grotz. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 10, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 11th & H Streets, Wymore with Fr. Ferdinand Boehme officiating. Burial will be at St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery at Marysville. There will be a scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 12:30 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. Sunday at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore, and at the church until 8:30 P.M. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial to St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Barneston and the Beatrice Dialysis Center with the funeral home in charge. An online register book may be signed at ghchapel.com.
