Dorothy Ellen (Finkner) Hesser, 91 of Adams, NE, passed away May 24, 2022, at Goldcrest Retirement Center. She was born September 19, 1930, rural Sterling, where she also attended grade school. She graduated from Adams High School in 1947 and attended UNL and Peru State to get a teaching certificate. At age 16, she started teaching rural schools in Johnson and Gage County for 5 years. She married Donald Hesser in 1950 and they lived and farmed north of Adams until retiring and moving into Adams in 1998. Dorothy was a stay-at-home mom while raising 2 boys, Rodney and Bradley, and three girls, Debra, Rose, Julie. She sewed their clothes, made crafts, sewed church banners and altar cloths. She was an active member of the Adams Methodist Church and UMW. She enjoyed playing the piano, traveling to Europe, Puerto Rico, Catalina Island, Mackinac Island, a Caribbean Cruise, an Alaska Cruise (helicopter landing on glaciers), Hawaii and many other places of interest in the states. She worked for Mr. Stake at the Stake Drugstore for 7 years, cleaned many homes in Lincoln, sold furniture at the Amish Country Showcase in Lincoln for 6 years, and worked at Gold Crest for 14 years, retiring at the age of 82. She collected over 150 thimbles, many unusual and beautiful ones. In later years she enjoyed volunteering at Gold Crest Retirement Center, playing piano for Chapel services, playing cards, and going on bus tours with friends. Her greatest joy was her family - fishing trips to Harlan County (40 years), family gatherings to celebrate holidays, playing cards and going to her grandkids and great grandkids many activities.\nDorothy's survivors include sons, Rodney (Mitzi) Hesser of Greensburg, KS, and Bradley (Suzanne) Hesser of Mahwah, NJ; daughters, Debra (Eldon) Ideus, Rose Jones, and Julie (Wayne) Unvert all of Adams, NE; Grandchildren (15), Chad and Sarah Ideus, Eric and Jenny Hesser, Anita (Ideus) and Kyle Ruse, Aaron and Kate Jones, Sarah (Unvert) and Anthony Harms, Nickolas Unvert, Jeffry and Kristin Hesser, Andrew Jones, Angela (Jones) and Rasyid Aldiputra, April (Jones) and Chuck Krueger, Brandon and Courtney Hesser, Jacob and Jasmine Unvert, Brock and Emily Hesser, Sydney Hesser, and Mackenzie Hesser; Great-grandchildren (24), Brady, Brooklyn and Barret Ideus, Erica and Drew Hesser, Holden, Carter and Ethan Ruse, Malakai Jones, Preston, Anastyn and Emery Harms, Molly, Uriah and Addie Jones, Trevin and Carsten Unvert, Meili Aldiputra, Clifford Krueger, Cali Sue (in heaven), Braxton, Brenna and Cassidy Hesser, Bentley Hesser; Sisters-in-law, Lois Finkner, Darlene Finkner and Wilma Hesser, and several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends. \nShe was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Edna (Fritz) Finkner; husband, Donald "Jim" Hesser (2002); great-granddaughter, Cali Sue Hesser; brothers, Clark and Arnold (Dean) Finkner; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sam and Erma Hesser, Walt and Margaret Hesser, Harold and Johanna Hesser, Clayton and Norma Hesser, Merl Hesser, and Melvin and Clarice Hesser; and Roy and Bertha (Hesser) Nelson; parent-in-laws James and Maggie Hesser\nFuneral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at the Adams United Methodist Church. The service will also be Livestreamed on the funeral home Facebook page. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery in Adams. The body will lie in state Monday from 2-8:00 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Adams with the family greeting friends from 6-7:30 PM, and in state Tuesday at the church one hour preceding the service. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 AM Tuesday at the church. A memorial has been established to Gold Crest and the United Methodist Church with the funeral home in charge.
