Donna J. Acton, 90, of Beatrice passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in Beatrice Sunday evening, June 19, 2022. She enjoyed a fulfilling lifetime of loving her family, serving her church and volunteering to make her community a better place.\nDonna was born on March 3, 1932 at Crab Orchard, NE to Emil and Effie (Dodson) Ruemelin, graduated from Adams High School, and obtained a teaching certificate from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She moved to Beatrice in 1950 and taught in one room schools near Adams and Beatrice. Donna married Thomas Keith Acton on May 31, 1953.\nShe was passionate about helping her children and others. She was a Girl Scout leader while her daughters advanced from Brownies and Juniors to Cadettes and Seniors. She was past president of the PTA and was once honored as parent of the year. To her family, she was always parent of the year. She was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church, serving her faith and fellow parishioners in a variety of roles. She taught Sunday and Bible school. She was active in UMW and Aldersgate Circle. She served on several committees, led the Memorial Committee to help families through the most difficult times, cooked meals for Junior High Fellowship and regularly baked cookies to share friendship. Donna enjoyed sewing, baking, camping, golfing, reading and flying. She loved sharing her talent for sewing and making crafts, and she valued how it stitched together friendships. She met monthly with her Sewing Club. She played a key role in the Holly Daze Boutique and volunteered at the Bargain Box to raise money for community need. Donna organized women's league and tournaments at Hidden Acres. She loved traveling with family and camping all over the country. Donna served on the city Election Board for years and spent election days handing out ballots and organizing precinct operations.\nSurvivors include her children Lynn Plucknett and husband Michael Johnson of Grand Island, Gail Cunningham and husband Rusty of Holmen, WI, Robin Thacker and husband Dennis of Dawson, NE, and Tom Acton and wife Rhonda of Katy, TX.She had seven grandchildren: Leticia Vandehaar of New York; Jared (Annette) of Omaha; Justin (Erica) of Louisville; Jordan (Laura) of Hiawatha, KS; Corey (Lauren) of Austin, TX; Courtney (Ben) Bir of Stillwater, OK; Ciara Gerick (Bryce) of Katy, TX.And she had six great-grandchildren: Annabelle and Jack Plucknett; Eliza, Estelle and Judah Plucknett; and George Vandehaar. She also had a sister, Bonnie Ward (Jack) of Tampa. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Thomas Keith Acton (1993); son-in-law John Plucknett; and brothers Bob and Lloyd Ruemelin.\nFuneral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, June 24, 2022 at the Centenary United Methodist Church with Reverend Paixao Baptista officiating. The service will also be Livestreamed on the church YouTube page https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwKCimklU2erGswysFahnIw/videos. Interment will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery. The body will lie in state Thursday from 12:00-8:00 PM at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice with the family greeting friends from 6-7:30 PM, and in state at the church one hour preceding the funeral on Friday. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 AM Friday at the church. A memorial has been established to the church with the funeral home in charge.
