Darold Arnold Rahe, born May 16, 1933, near Harbine, NE, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, at the age of 92. A dedicated farmer and a reliable pillar of his community, Darold spent most of his life in the Plymouth and Harbine areas before moving to Beatrice in 2004. He was born north of Harbine, NE, oldest of 7 children. Darold attended a one room schoolhouse on the farm where he grew up. He attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School north of Zion Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. Darold attended Harbine School for 2 years, and later graduated from Plymouth High School.
Darold was drafted in the United States Army and proudly served his country from May 15, 1953 until April 23, 1955. He served in the Korea War, starting September 1953 for almost a year, serving in an infantry Unit, and served in a Headquarters Unit later in Korea. Darold returned to the family farm and worked at Meadow Gold distributing dairy products to numerous communities. He met Gwen Schuerman and they married on June 24, 1956 at St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice. Darold was the first veteran honored by Jefferson County Veteran Service office.
He was known for his smart mind and generous spirit, always full of energy and ready to lend a helping hand. As a former commander and on the honor guard and color guard of Plymouth American Legion, a member and former president of the Tri County School Board, and a volunteer on the Agricultural Conservation Service Board, Darold's contributions were far-reaching. He also served on the board that formed the Farmers Union Co-op, merging several area elevators. He also served his church community faithfully as an active member and former president of the church council at Zion Lutheran Church near Harbine and at St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice.
Darold was a loving husband to Gwen for over 69 years, a supportive father to Randal and Sandra, and a caring grandfather and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Lena Rahe, and 5 brothers and sisters. He loved nothing more than spending time farming, sharing a cup of coffee with friends, enjoyed Happy Hour with his wife and friends, and fixing things. As Thomas Jefferson once said, "Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals, and happiness." Darold's life was a testament to these words. His dedication to farming and his community was unwavering, and his generous heart touched the lives of all who knew him.
