Darlene Gerdes, age 95 of Wymore passed away on September 28, 2018 at Beatrice Good Samaritan Society. She was born on August 30, 1923 in Beatrice to Andrew W. and Alta West. She was a graduate of Beatrice High School. On May 18, 1947, she was married to Alvin J. Gerdes in Marysville, Kansas. She and Alvin lived and farmed in the Beatrice and Wymore area. She also worked at Wilcox Cleaners and Form Fit. Darlene enjoyed sewing, going to flea markets and auctions, and collecting cookie jars and cookbooks.\nSurvivors include her son, Gerald Gerdes and wife Bernice of Wymore; grandchildren, Aaron (Dottie) Gerdes, Gerald G. (Kelly) Gerdes, Ron Bartels, Warren Bartels, Clinton Bartels, Matthew (Judy) Bartels, and JanaLynn Bartels; 16 great grandchildren, 16 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Irma Gerdes; several nieces and nephews, and a host of extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin (2004); great grandson, Justin; and brothers-in-law, Earl, Tom, Harry, and Ted (Mildred) Gerdes.\nFuneral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore with Pastor Suzanne How officiating. A family prayer service will begin at 10:15 AM. Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. Casual attire is requested. The body will lie in state at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore on Thursday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM with the family greeting relatives and friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM and one hour prior to the service on Friday. A memorial has been established to the family for a charitable designation at a later date with the funeral home in charge.
