Connie J. Michaelis, age 71 of Wymore passed away on February 16, 2019 at the Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center. She was born on December 15, 1947 in Beatrice to O. Eugene and Evelyn (Watson) Plihal. Connie's mother died when she was just two years old. Her father married Elizabeth "Betty" Keck, and Connie forever cherished Betty as her Mom. Connie was a 1966 graduate of Wymore High School. She began working as an office manager for the Benson Agency in 1966 and remained there through several ownership changes. She retired from Wymore Insurance Agency in 2017. She married Gordon Michaelis on August 17, 1967. Connie was a past President of the Wymore Chamber of Commerce; past Secretary/Treasurer of the Tri County Board of Realtors, member of the Nebraska State Volunteer Firefighter's Association Auxiliary and Gage County Rodeo Association; past member of the Wymore Fire Alarms; and a lifetime member of Gage County Agricultural Society. While Connie was very involved in her career and community, her greatest accomplishment was her family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and caring for them. She will forever be remembered for her "three batch" chocolate chip cookies that never seemed to last as long as three batches should and her Sunday morning pancakes.\nThose left to mourn her passing are her husband of 51 years, Gordon of Wymore; daughter, Jeannie Thomas and husband Anthony of Wymore; son, Darin Michaelis of Wymore; grandchildren, Heather Penner, Courtney (Jayson) Tennant, Dakota (Jerrad) Hurley, Dustin Michaelis and significant other Amber Owens, and Leslie Michaelis and significant other Derek Smith all of Wymore, and Chelsea (Tyler) Jones of Summerfield, Kansas; great grandchildren, Isabelle & Emily Penner, Parker, Noah, Aspen, & Josephine Hurley, and Carlie, Lane & Hunter Smith; brother, Roger (Suzanne) Plihal of Lee's Summit, Missouri; sisters, Linda (Ed) James of Plattsmouth and Sherri (Doug) Ottersberg of Wymore; mother-in-law, Evelyn Michaelis of Wymore; brothers-in-law, Dell (Margaret) Michaelis of Wymore and Roger Michaelis of Pleasant Dale; sister-in-law, Ginger (Todd) Nicolaus of Liberty, Missouri and many nieces, nephews, and cousins and a host of extended family and friends.\nShe was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Plihal; parents, Eugene and Betty; father-in-law, Norman Michaelis; sister, Marcia Robinette; brother, Dennis Burgess; and nephew, Kent Michaelis.\nFuneral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Wymore Church of Christ with Jon Palmquist and Gail Portenier officiating. A family prayer service will begin at 1:15 PM. Burial will be at the Wymore Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore on Friday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM with the family greeting relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, and at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. A memorial has been established to the family's choice for future designation with Walt and Judy Henrichs in charge.
