Berniece E. Mettscher

Berniece E. Mettscher, age 91 years, of Blue Springs died Monday evening, August 26, 2013 at the Wymore Good Samaritan Center. She was born November 26, 1921 on a farm east of Blue Springs to Dickson Edgar and Martha Ann (Jones) Hardy. She spent her childhood in that area and married Albert E. Mettscher on June 3, 1938 at Great Bend, Kansas. They moved to Blue Springs from Wymore in 1951. Berniece had been employed for ten years at the Sunrise Bakery in Beatrice, and for 10 years as the manager of the Wymore Swimming Pool. She was a member of the Blue Springs United Methodist Church, the Willing Workers of the church, and the Blue Springs Firebelles. She enjoyed helping with the church bazaar and her hobbies included playing cards and Bingo, dancing, bird watching, gardening, and especially spending time with her family.

Berniece is survived by three sons, Melvin Mettscher and his wife Sharon; Ron Mettscher, and Brian Mettscher, all of Lincoln; by five grandchildren, Mike Mettscher of Lincoln; Krista Mettscher of Beatrice; Katie Hoti and Ross Mettscher, both of Lincoln; and Mat Mettscher of Plattsmouth; by six great grandchildren, and by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband, Albert on November 2, 2007; and by three sisters, Mable McFarren, Mildred Colgrove, and Viola Herman.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 3,2013 at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home, 505 North Ninth Street, Wymore, with Pastor Lori Miller of the Blue Springs United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be at the Blue Springs Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Monday, and from 9:00 A.M. until service time on Tuesday.
