Arlin "Bear" Schuerman Obituary (1937 - 2018)

Arlin G. "Bear" Schuerman, 81 years of age, of DeWitt passed away unexpectedly at his home Friday morning, December 21, 2018. He was born on December 2, 1937 in DeWitt to Theodore J. and Reatha (Henke) Schuerman and graduated from DeWitt High School in 1955. He was married to Laurell Southwick. Their marriage of 18 years produced three daughters, Christine, Gretchen and Merry. Arlin married Analee Lloyd on July 31, 1992. Arlin was a machinist in the tool and dye department at Petersen Manufacturing in DeWitt for 45 years, retiring in 2000 and had farmed with his brother most of his life. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in DeWitt and had been on the church council and was also a member of the Eagles Club in Beatrice. Arlin enjoyed woodworking, working on automobiles, camping and boating, and received awards in football and basketball while in high school. Survivors include his wife Analee; daughters Christine Schuerman of Lincoln, Gretchen Johnson and husband Brian of Manhattan, KS, and Merry Hansen and husband Keith of Omaha; step daughters Johanna Cramer, and Christina Cramer and husband Steve, all of Denver; 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; and sisters Ruth Miller and husband Ron, and Lois Disney, all of Lincoln. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Roger Schuerman; and brother in law Elmer Disney. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 28, 2018 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in DeWitt with Reverend Sean Koos officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in DeWitt. The body will lie in state from 10:00AM-8:00 PM Thursday at the Venrick-Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in DeWitt with the family greeting friends from 4-6:00, and at the church one hour preceding the funeral. A family prayer service will be held at 1:45 PM Friday at the church. A memorial has been established to the family with Liz Poessnecker in charge.
