Beatrice, Nebraska
After a long journey with dementia, Amelia “Amy” (Blazek) Bent passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 4, 2026. While the disease dimmed her memories, it could never dim her beautiful spirit or her love for family, which shone brightest in moments of shared laughter, holding her cat and listening to ’50’s rock ‘n roll and ‘70’s classic rock music.
Amy was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. She graduated from Omaha South High School in 1956. The summer after her junior year in high school she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Bent, at the roller rink. After graduating from high school, she began working at Mutual of Omaha. On July 14, 1956, she and Bob eloped in Glenwood, Iowa. They made their home in Omaha. Amy worked for 2 years before having their first son, when she became a homemaker for the rest of her life.
In 1963, Bob’s job with Northern Natural Gas took them to Beatrice, Nebraska, where they lived for a short time. In 1965, they chose to move to Wymore, Nebraska, to raise their family. Amy and Bob had a love for hot rod cars. She cherished her 1972 Chevelle Malibu. They also had a love for drag racing and car shows that accumulated several trophies over the years. After spectating Bob at billiards for many years, he taught her how to shoot, and she enjoyed playing in several pool leagues.
In the summertime, you could always find Amy working in the yard or at the Wymore swimming pool with the kids and her good friend Lucy Ruiz. In the fall, she bowled with friends in the Wymore women’s bowling league.
Amy loved all of her grandkids and great grandkids and enjoyed attending many of their activities. Since Bob’s passing In August 1998, she had a great love for all of her cats.
Until her health condition made it impossible, Amy lived in her home for 55 years. In October 2020, Amy moved to Beatrice Health & Rehabilitation to have all of her needs met.
Amy was preceded in death by her husband Robert Lee Bent, parents Joseph & Bessie (Pecha) Blazek, daughter-in-law Alice Bent, stepson Robert Bent, step grandsons Jay Bent and Jesse Bent, step great grandson Zane Eubanks, brother James Blazek, and brother and sister-in-law Gene and Wilda Blazek.
